Motivational Story - Frank Gore (New York Jets / NFL)

Greetings! With this story, may it serve as your reminder why you SHOULD NEVER GIVE UP or STOP BELIEVING IN YOUR FUTURE when things do not go as promised or if you are battling through the setback of an injury or a personal issue?

Look at the career and life of Frank Gore, a football player. He had to overcome numerous hardships in the first 24 years of his life. He grew up on welfare in a rough neighborhood in Miami, Florida. He was the son of a single mother who suffered from kidney disease and started dialysis during Gore’s junior year in high school while Frank struggled with dyslexia as a child. During his collegiate football career, he tore his right ACL after his freshman season at Miami (FL) and the left ACL during his sophomore season.

Despite the skills that he showed out on the field at running back, Gore slid down to the third round in the 2005 NFL Draft. Determined to prove the draft experts wrong, he would rush for 2,300 yards in his first two NFL seasons in San Francisco. “It wasn’t an easy road to get to the NFL,” said Gore. “I’ve been doubted my whole career. When I tore my two ACLs, a lot of people said I wouldn’t ever make it.”

After he tasted early going success in the pro ranks, Gore needed to undergo major surgery on both of his shoulders following the 2006 season. Then at the beginning of the 2007 NFL season, tragedy struck in his personal life with the passing of his 47-year-old mother and the murder of his childhood friend and college teammate. As well, his body continued to get nicked up – this time he would miss the entire pre-season with the 49ers due to a broken bone in his hand.

Having overcome 14 career injuries (including a hip fracture), Gore continues to play in the NFL today and just recently surpassed the great Barry Sanders in 2019 for third place overall in all-time rushing yardage and now stands at 15,868.

No doubt Frank Gore will one day be enshrined into the National Football League Hall of Fame but should be every athlete’s role model for perseverance and belief in one’s self to not let any setback ever derail your Dreams!
