Motivational Story - Star Trek--The Next Generation ("You Can Never Fear Failure")

Greetings! I've been a big fan of the Star Trek–The Next Generation TV Show and catching them again in syndication. There was this one particular scene that I want to make my FOCUS for You this week!

It was about two of the show's main characters - “Lieutenant Commander Data” and “Chief Engineer Geordi LaForge” when they ventured into the ship’s holodeck to reenact the fictional character Sherlock Holmes from the late 19th & early 20th centuries.

Data, an android on the show, frustrated LaForge because his positronic brain allowed him to compute things ahead so that he kept figuring out the story’s outcome within seconds. The characters got into a big discussion in which Laforge complained to Data that the fun is in the attempt to solve the mystery, not skipping to the end.

Here came Dr. Pulaski, the ship's Chief Medical Officer, who overheard their discussion and tries to counsel Data by saying: “TO FEEL THE REAL THRILL OF VICTORY, THERE HAS TO BE THE POSSIBILITY OF FAILURE.” She then added: “Data, there is some value in losing. WE LEARN MORE ABOUT OURSELVES FROM FAILURE AND THE MISTAKES WE'VE MADE THAN WE DO IN WINNING.”

What the Star Trek’s ship doctor said was so true when it comes to becoming a success in athletics and or business. YOU CAN NEVER FEAR FAILURE OK!

Here are two Two of my favorite quotes that deal with adversity. One is authored by Henry Ward Beecher: “One's best success comes after their greatest disappointments” and the second by Zig Ziglar: “Others can stop you temporarily - You are the only one who can do it permanently”.
