Motivational Story - Small Beginnings can still lead to Great Success!

Image
With this week’s piece, it's about an athlete who was hardly noticed in high school, some thought he was physically unimpressive. Passed over by all of the well known college basketball programs, this player would find himself at a small school with a total student population less than 2,000 where he grew and developed his game. For the many that ignored him, today he is a global superstar and one of the faces of the NBA: Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors . It was his time spent at little Davidson College in North Carolina and the relationship he forged with his basketball coach, Bob McKillop , that was the birthplace of his brilliance out on the court. “He gave me all the confidence in the world, in terms of what I could be -- in terms of being a man, the balance of on-the-court and off-the-court expectations," Curry said. Greetings! This week I am recommending you watch the video link posted below in this piece that features Kobe Bryant  which was shot back in 2018 when he was visiting Shanghai, China. He offers a fascinating perspective on how he steered himself in a direction to help him achieve his life-long ambition! In this video, Kobe also speaks about his Five Pillars needed to succeed in sports or in life. They are… BE PASSIONATE… BE OBSESSIVE (about ‘Attention to Details’) … BE RELENTLESS … BE RESILIENT … BE FEARLESS . As you watch, Kobe will probe you with the following thoughts: * What do you value most? What’s important to you? * Are you making consistently good choices? * What would make you work harder and longer than everyone else? * Do you constantly source motivation in order to achieve your goals? * Are you confident in your ability, irrespective of other’s opinions? * How do you respond to setbacks? You’re at that stage of development now where you need to invest in your body, m...

A Decision That Cost a Lifetime

This piece was one of the toughest articles I’ve ever written! It came about from a tragic situation that took place during a horrific flood that hit the Toowoomba city in Queensland,  Australia in 2011. This story involves a family of two brothers – Blake (10)  & J ordan (13) Rice and their Mother (Donna) . The mother was innocently driving to a store to buy school uniforms for her children when a massive amount of rain water broke through the central business district of their city and began to flood the area.  The family car became stuck in the floodwaters and the tide was quickly rising up at warp speed. The mother then made a desperate call to the local emergency services while standing and holding onto her kids from the top of their vehicle.  As the intense flow of water now went up and over the rooftop, it also swept the family off their feet and out into what would look like a makeshift river. Donna was quickly out of sight and nowhere to be foun...
