Motivational Poem - "I CAN"

 


Here is a special Poem that I once shared with a group of high school and college athletes across America who were playing for the opportunity to one day perform at the highest level of their chosen sport.

"You are the handicap you must face,
You are the one who must choose your place,
You must work to where you want to go,
God has equipped you for life, but He
Lets you decide what you want to be.
Courage must come from the Soul within,
You must furnish the Will to Win.
So figure it out for Yourself, my Lad.
You were Born with all that the greats have had,
With your Equipment they all Began,
Get hold of Yourself and say: 'I Can!'”

A Decision That Cost a Lifetime

  This piece was one of the toughest articles I’ve ever written! It came about from a tragic situation that took place during a horrific flood that hit the Toowoomba city in Queensland,  Australia in 2011. This story involves a family of two brothers – Blake (10)  & J ordan (13) Rice and their Mother (Donna) . The mother was innocently driving to a store to buy school uniforms for her children when a massive amount of rain water broke through the central business district of their city and began to flood the area.  The family car became stuck in the floodwaters and the tide was quickly rising up at warp speed. The mother then made a desperate call to the local emergency services while standing and holding onto her kids from the top of their vehicle.  As the intense flow of water now went up and over the rooftop, it also swept the family off their feet and out into what would look like a makeshift river. For this piece, I am going to dip into the movie industry to illustrate the point about the “PROCESS”, a term every athlete hears and has engraved in the back of his or her mind on a yearly basis when competing in team sports? This will show you that no matter the sport or the profession or regardless of your experience, that you have to be totally prepared before the lights ever get turned on in order to achieve the results necessary to advance in your trade? So let's look at the Process Hollywood actor Rami Malek subjected himself to when he got the leading role in “Bohemian Rhapsody” where he played legendary frontman Freddie Mercury of the famed rock band QUEEN back in 2018. This actor took an entire year to learn every single aspect about Mercury’s life and left no stone unturned.
